Pamplin Media Group – Jefferson County Livestock Association hosts 70th annual banquet

Livestock Man of the Year awarded, along with special recognitions and supreme beef champion

The Jefferson County Livestock Association hosted its 70th annual banquet last Saturday, Jan. 15 at the old Hatfield building in Madras.

The yearly banquet honors those that have contributed to the JCLA, and presents awards for Livestock Man of the Year, Supreme Beef Champion, and special recognition awards.

This year’s Livestock Man of the Year is Trevor Aldrich.

Aldrich has worked in cattle his entire life and has over 250 mother cows in his herd. He started in 1996 with 12 heifers and has grown his herd with his family since then. He also has worked at Central Oregon Livestock Auction for the past 10 years, and according to his wife, Bobbi, he “takes pride in sorting customers’ cattle and is committed to being a part of marketing their cattle.” He was presented the award by JCLA vice president JoHanna Symons.

Other special recognition awards were presented Saturday night.

The first recognized Candy Gomes, who served over 35 years with the JCLA board. She has served as the president, vice president, secretary, and secretary of the auction committee. She was presented with a piece of handmade metal art as a thank-you for her service.

Past President George Albert was also recognized, presented an award by Kristina Gomes.

Also presented at the banquet was the Supreme Beef Champion, which went to Tristin Symons. Second place went to Paulina Gamboa.
