Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Sensex closed at 83,185, up 237 points, while the Nifty ended at 25,416, a gain of 38 points. The Midcap index, on the other end, continued its downward trend, falling for the third consecutive session. It dropped 401 points to 59,352, with Vodafone Idea and BSE Ltd emerging as the top losers in the Midcap segment.
The Nifty Bank index ended above the 53,000 mark, closing at 53,037.6, up 287 points. HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were key contributors to this rise. However, PSU stocks faced pressure, with the Nifty PSE index declining nearly 2%.
Vodafone Idea suffered its largest single-day decline since January 2022, plummeting 19% after the Supreme Court rejected its plea regarding AGR dues. Indus Tower also experienced its biggest single-day drop since June 4, also related to AGR dues.
NTPC was among the top gainers on the Nifty, rising more than 2% following its green filing for an IPO. In contrast, BPCL saw a decline of over 3% as Brent crude oil prices approached $75 per barrel. Radico and USL ended lower following the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet’s approval of a new liquor policy.
Wockhardt hit a 5% upper circuit limit on news regarding an update on its investigational drug, Zaynich. Conversely, GE T&D hit a 5% lower circuit limit due to plans for a promoter stake sale. Info Edge saw a more than 2% increase following a Bank of America upgrade to “Buy.” SJVN, however, continued its losing streak, down nearly 1% and marking its seventh consecutive session of declines.
