ECU’s Eastern Region Pharma Center hosts PharmaFest 2024

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – ECU’s Eastern Region Pharma Center hosted its annual PharmaFest on Wednesday.

The career development fair held in the Life Sciences and Biotechnology Building on campus offered students from ECU and partnering community colleges around Eastern North Carolina the chance to speak with representatives from regional pharmaceutical companies about potential career paths.

The fair was open to students of all majors as well as those interested in pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Pharma Center’s Director Dr. Loren Limberis says it was great to see ECU alumni working as representatives for many of the companies that were at the event.

“We want the current students to see themselves in the industry, and then they get to talk one-on-one with these former students to say, ‘This was my path, I have a degree in finance. I’m now working at one of these pharma companies. I have a degree in mechanical engineering, I never thought I’d be in pharma, but yet here I am,’” said Dr. Limberis.

Pablo Nunez stopped by PharmaFest to learn more about the possible career opportunities offered throughout North Carolina.

“This is amazing! For the students, it’s life-changing,” said Nunez. “Sometimes, other than the classes and everything, events like this, networking and everything is usually better for looking for new opportunities and for securing that job in the future.”

According to the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, North Carolina is the third-leading state in the country for biotechnology, with more than 800 life sciences and pharmaceutical companies employing more than 75,000 people.
