Livestock report from the Oklahoma City Stockyards:

Oklahoma Weekly Cattle Auction Summary Livestock Weighted Average Report for the week of Jan. 9 through Thursday.

Receipts: 47,57, Last report: 30,292; Last year: 42,801

Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to $3 lower, except 600-700 lbs. up to $6 higher. Feeder heifers steady to $2 higher. Demand moderate for feeder cattle. Slaughter cattle sold cheaper this week and numbers were fairly light. Beef prices, on the other hand are moving higher as slaughter rates are lower verses a year ago. Steer calves sold $3-$10 higher. Heifer calves $2-$5 higher. Demand very good for calves despite the very dry conditions across the state and large numbers of calves coming to market. Calf market is being fueled by higher feeder futures in late summer and fall. Slaughter cows sold firm to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls $3 higher. Packer demand moderate. Several higher quality bred cows and pairs available at auctions this week due to the dry conditions and these sold to very good demand. Supply included: 93% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 0% Dairy Steers, 43% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 5% Slaughter Cattle (88% Cows, 12% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (91% Bred Cows, 9% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 52%.

SLAUGHTER CATTLE

Slaughter cattle traded steady to $2 lower in Texas and Kansas. In Nebraska, live cattle $1-$3 lower and dressed sales $2 lower. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday afternoon totaled 59,263 head. Last week’s total head count was 47,962 head.

Federally Inspected Cattle: 621,000 down 4.8 percent from a year ago. year.

WESTERN CORNBELT DIRECT LEAN HOG BASE PRICE

The weighted average price of packers bids on a carcass basis Friday was $72.34.

HOG FUTURES

Dressed Basis: (74% yield): Feb. $80.90; April $88.45; May $93.65; June $99.90.

HOG SLAUGHTER

Federally Inspected Hogs: 2.407 million head down 9.0 percent from last year.

SHEEP SLAUGHTER

Federally Inspected Sheep/Lambs: 33,000 head down 8.3 percent from last year.

BOXED BEEF

Estimated Composite Boxed Beef Cutout Values: Friday afternoon Boxed beef cut-out values: $12.68 higher from last Friday. Choice 600-900 lbs. $284.31; Select 600-900 lbs. $273.97.

MEAT PRODUCTION

Beef: 521.9 million lbs. down 5.2 percent from a year ago.

Pork: 522.3 million lbs. down 10.4 percent from a year ago.

Lamb: 2.1 million lbs. down 12.5 percent from a year ago.

CATTLE CARCASS WEIGHTS

National Average: This week estimate: 843 lbs.; Last week estimate 841 lbs.; Last year’s actual 847 lbs.
